PITTSFIELD (NEWS CENTER) -- The Pittsfield Recycling Facility reports it has more than a seventy percent recycling rate, making the town the top recycling municipality in the state. Pittsfield Recycling Coordinator Donald Chute said the state's goal is fifty percent. He said the program has been successful because people in town are willing to participate and learn about recycling. He believes the economy also pushes people to recycle.

"People are willing at this time, due to the economy, to reduce the amount that they're using, recycle and reuse stuff so it's coming around full circle," Chute told NEWS CENTER. "As the economy gets worse people participate and recycle to save money."

Recycling is free for people in Pittsfield. They can recycle three different ways: by having their recycling picked up, by dropping it off behind the town office, or by bringing it to the dump.
