PORTLAND (AP) -- Maine's fire marshal says investigators will be staking out fireworks stores in New Hampshire around the Fourth of July holiday and people who try to bring illegal fireworks into Maine may be arrested.
Maine permits the sale and use of sparklers and caps but bans all other consumer fireworks, including bottle rockets, Roman candles and firecrackers. Violators may face penalties ranging from a $50 fine to 10 years in prison, depending on the amount of fireworks involved.
To Mainers thinking of buying fireworks in New Hampshire, Fire Marshal John Dean says, "We'll be watching."
