TREMONT (NEWS CENTER) -- Tens of thousands of acres of forestland, farmland, and working waterfront will be preserved as part of the state funded Land For Maine's Future program.

The LMF board announced its list of new projects to receive funding in 2008. One of those projects is the Davis Wharf at Goose Cove on Mount Desert Island.

Robert Davis and his family will receive 265 thousand dollars from the Land For Maine's Future program. They'll use the money to pay off the mortgage on the property and invest in new equipment for the wharf.

In exchange they must promise to forever keep the property as working waterfront.

"My life is lobstering and there's no reason to sell this," Davis said. "There's no reason at all to move and there's no place to go. I live right here and I walk to work and I fish everyday and there's no reason to sell."

There are 48 projects receiving nearly $18 million in funding including two other working waterfront proposals.
