BREWER (NEWS CENTER) -- Dozens of mill workers who lost their jobs over the past year are getting a free thanksgiving meal, thanks to Tood and Medicines annual solidarity harvest.

Food and Medicine is shipping out 157 Thanksgiving meals to union workers and their families across eastern and northern Maine.

The meals are going to workers from the Pinkham Sawmill in Ashland, Katahdin Paper in Millinocket, the former Red Shield Mill in Old Town, Domtar in Baileyville, and DHL Shipping in Brewer.

"The program is really about bringing together our community which consists of farmers, laid off workers, union members, the religious community, civic organizations and other folks, to basically put these meals together," said Brent Hall of Food and Medicine.

This is Food and Medicines 6th annual solidarity harvest. Most of the items are either purchased or donated from local farms and bakeries
