Great Bambino clippings get digital rebirth

Baseball Hall of Fame coordinates with Maine company.

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A trip to Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame is a high priority for fans of the game, but not everyone can get there. Thanks to help from a Maine technology company -- you can now learn more about baseball's biggest heroes without having to travel.

HistoryIT, a Portland-based technology company, partnered with Hall of Fame officials to digitize 1,400 pages of clippings about the life and career of Babe Ruth.

The clippings are posted in an interactive layout that also makes them easily searchable, a critical part of HistoryIT's strategic plan.

It may seem like it's a trend that's taking away from museums, but HistoryIT CEO, Kristen Gwinn-Becker, believes the more you discover online, the more you'll want to see in person.

HistoryIT says more digital archives will be released in the coming months, including rare photos of Jackie Robinson and letters written by Ty Cobb.
