PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Our gloomy pattern is breaking down and clouds will be doing a disappearing act over the next 24 hours as high pressure builds in. Below average temperatures have been the rule of thumb lately but I’m expecting a nice little warming trend as a summery pattern takes hold of the East Coast with mid-70s attainable by the end of the work week!
Beyond that, next weekend all depends on the eventual path of Hurricane Matthew. Matthew is a Category Four hurricane, moving north through the Caribbean, nearing Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba.
Usually, when tropical systems travel north, they begin picking up forward speed. But because of the lack of steering currents, Matthew will need the whole week to travel through the Bahamas and emerge off the Southeast US as we approach the weekend.
There are a number of different computer models and their various subsets that we evaluate for path and strength several times a day. The most recent information not only points to a Southeast US threat but also, perhaps, a New England threat as well.
