Tax collector pleads guilty of embezzlement

WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - -  Westbrook's former tax collector pleads guilty to embezzling thousands from the City of Westbrook, according to United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.

The press released issued Monday states that 52-year-old Ann Marie Williams, of Saco, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to embezzling funds from the City of Westbrook.

"According to court records, between July of 2015 and April of this year, Williams embezzled $118,000 of cash tax receipts while employed as the City’s tax collector," said United States Attorney Delahanty II.

United States Attorney Delahanty II said Williams faces up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. She will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office. 

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the press release.
