When lead singer Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994, Nirvana died with him.
Rather than join a new band, Grohl started one himself called the Foo Fighters. In fact, he was the entire band at first, playing every single instrument on the debut album. But that wasn't a trick he could pull off live, so Grohl hired some musicians to back him up on tour and the group has been cranking out the hits ever since.
