PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- The Portland Downtown District had many entries for this year's Christmas tree, to sit in Monument Square.
The winner, though, is a 55 foot Blue Spruce that actually sits in a residential development on McLean Street in South Portland. The tree is being donated by the homeowner.
Crane services and construction workers are also donating their time this morning. Starting at 9am they will cut down the tree and it will make its way down the streets of Portland.
The route it will take starts at Main Street in South Portland, over the Veterans Bridge, down Commercial Street and arrive at Monument Square between 9:30 and 10am. By noon it will be installed.
The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be Friday, November 29th at 5:30pm.
A special Maine Make a Wish child will get to press the button to light up this year's tree with three thousand LED lights! There will be plenty of music and entertainment to go around.
