b. movie shoot
Elvis received his draft notice on Dec. 20, 1957.
He was granted his deferment and finished shooting "King Creole" before reporting for duty three months later.
Elvis didn't fight the draft and insisted on being treated like any other soldier. He made only one other special request to go home when his mother was dying of hepatitis.
Elvis then returned to his unit and was shipped off to a base in Germany. After two years of service, he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
