You can thank international timekeepers who are adding a second to the clock at Midnight Universal Time. That's 8:00 PM EST.
They're doing it to synchronize the official atomic clock with the earth.
The earth slows down a fraction of a fraction of a second every year due to the tidal pull of the moon.
Timekeepers likely won't add another leap second for 2 or 3 years.
