BLUEFIELD, West Virginia (WVVA) -- West Virginia motorists who had to travel Friday morning were urged to use caution as conditions from Thursday's winter storm left roadways hazardous.
Black ice and lingering snow remained on roadways near Bluefield.
More than a foot of snow fell in a matter of hours.
Dozens of accidents and stalled vehicles were reported. Major highways such as Route 460 and Interstate 77 were either partially or completely shut down at various times and locations into Thursday night as road crews worked to plow snow that re-covered roads almost as quickly as it was removed.
