PHOENIX, Arizona (KPNX) -- The widow of Billy Warneke, one of 19 firefighters killed in Arizona's Yarnell Hill Fire in June, on Thursday appealed to the governor to support equal survivor benefits for families of all the men.
Roxanne Warneke sent a letter to Gov. Jan Brewer, saying that fire lines "make no distinction by time card or by paper in an employment file."
She noted that she is expecting a baby in December and worries about health coverage.
"I hope you will go the extra mile by calling the Arizona Legislature into a special session to address this issue," she wrote, noting that House Speaker Andy Tobin is drafting legislation on the issue.
A spokesman for Brewer said the governor is waiting to see Tobin's proposal.
