Scott Crosby-- 2013 John W. Coombs Award winner

Scott Crosby "shows up for everything" at the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge. But he's not just present, he's putting his skills to work, dedicated to making life better for others.

The Elks is the primary way that Scott has channeled his deep desire to serve the community. According to Michael Lange, a fellow Elk in leadership, "Scott always thinks of other people first, and that's what makes him a great Lodge member. If there's a new or ongoing opportunity for the Lodge to support our charitable causes, Scott not only starts the ball rolling, but recruits enough help to get it done."

He is a member of the Elks Scholarship Committee. He volunteers routinely at blood drives, at Special Olympic events and the annual golf tournament supporting Maine Children's Cancer Program. An award-winning chef and a 25-year instructor of culinary arts, he is always at the helm of Elks' frequent fundraising dinners, which support sports teams, youth groups, a family in need, or other important community causes.

His nominator, Emily Rae Hodgdon says that "Scott's volunteerism is not an act of charity. To him, lending a hand to aid charitable organizations is a way of life."
