Project Heat: Help fellow Mainers

(NEWS CENTER) -- Every year thousands of Mainers struggle to heat their homes. NEWS CENTER's Project Heat fundraises money to support the Keep ME Warm fund.

To donate on Jan. 15 call 855-875-4328(HEAT) if you are in the Portland area or 855-874-9529 if you are in the Bangor area.

Keep ME Warm provides emergency heating assistance through United Way and Community Action Agencies. That aims to bridge the gap for families who no longer qualify for federal funds. United Way disperses the money collected through Project Heat to Mainers all over the state. Some of the money raised will also go to towns and churches that have their own heating assistance programs.

This year oil prices are lower than they have been in years. That means your dollars will go further than they have in years and United Way will be able to help more people.

On Thursday, Jan. 15, NEWS CENTER is holding its annual Project Heat Telethon to raise money for the for the Keep ME Warm fund. We'll be here from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. answering your calls

and taking your donations. Last year, NEWS CENTER raised $225,000 and we hope to beat that this year.
