BANGOR, Maine (AP) - After a bruising primary, Maine Republicans are looking to unite behind Bruce Poliquin and reclaim the 2nd Congressional District for the first time in two decades.
Republicans are holding a rally on Friday to kick off the campaigns for the general election in November.
The event in Bangor will feature Republican Gov. Paul LePage, Sen. Susan Collins, 1st District candidate Isaac Misiuk and Poliquin, who won the party's nomination for the open congressional seat on Tuesday.
The primary battle between conservative Poliquin and moderate Republican Kevin Raye revealed divisions within the party that have been seen across the country.
Poliquin will take on state Sen. Emily Cain, who defeated Troy Jackson on Tuesday. Jackson has endorsed Cain and is also asking the party to unite behind her.
