CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- The family of a Hopkinton, N.H., police officer killed in a hit-and-run crash will receive more than $1 million in a settlement with the driver and the Chinese restaurant where police said the man had been drinking.

Twenty-four-year-old Sean Powers was on his way home after work on his motorcycle in August 2008 when he was hit in Henniker.

Twenty-two-year-old Jeffrey Dennis was convicted of DWI and negligent homicide and is serving five to 15 years in prison.

According to the settlement, $800,000 going to Powers' family will come from the insurance company for Cheng Yang Li, the restaurant where police said Dennis was drinking. The rest comes from Dennis.

Lawyers say the family plans to use the money to help pay for college for Powers' nieces and nephews.
