(NBC) - One of NBC's new fall shows, "Chicago Fire", is being filmed entirely in Chicago.

The series will focus on the men and women who work for the city's fire department.

The show creators want "Chicago Fire" to be as authentic as possible, so they are working very closely with the real Chicago Fire Department.

"This show is going to give the public a real idea of what we do for a living," says Fire Chief Steve Chikerotis.

Real Chicago firefighters and paramedics are working closely with cast members to help them better understand how to use the tools of the trade.

At the Chicago Fire Academy the actors suited up in full gear and actually experienced what it's like to enter a smoke filled room.

"It's really amazing how little you see, so it's all by touch and feel. It's tough to breath even with the air," says actor Taylor Kinney.

The crew was in town filming the pilot in March.

It will premiere on Wednesday, October 10th on NBC.
