OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- When it comes to environmentally sensitive home construction, there's green. Then there's David Gottfried's home in Oakland. Gottfried, founder of the World Green Building Council, his wife Dr. Sara Gottfried, and their two young children are living in the highest-scoring green home renovation since the LEED for Homes Green Building Rating System went into effect last January. The restored 1915 home earned green platinum status with 106.5 points out of a total 136 possible under the LEED for Homes certification program. The home has many environmentally friendly features like solar heating systems and a system to divert rainwater for use in a toilet. But Gottfried didn't scrimp on style and 27 colors were used in the decor. Gottfried describes it as "eco-bling."
