Red Sox send closer Andrew Bailey to Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine- Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Andrew Bailey is scheduled to make a rehab appearance with the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday, August 5th when the Sea Dogs host the Erie SeaWolves at 1:00 PM at Hadlock Field.

Bailey has been out the entire season recovering from right thumb surgery. He has made two rehab appearances with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox where he has notched four strikeouts over two scoreless innings.

The 28 year-old was acquired by the Boston Red Sox on December 28, 2011 in a trade with the Oakland Athletics that also brought Ryan Sweeney to the Red Sox. Boston sent outfielder and former Sea Dog Josh Reddick, right-handed pitcher Raul Alcantara and first baseman Miles Head to the Athletics.

Bailey earned 2009 American League Rookie of the Year honors and is a two-time American League All-Star (2009 & 2010). In three years of Major League service he has appeared in 157 games and has produced a 7-10 record with 75 saves and a 2.07 ERA.
