opening-round loser Monday at the $235,000 Pattaya Open tennis event.
New Zealand's Marina Erakovic whipped Taipei's Hsieh 6-2, 6-2 on the
hardcourts at Dusit Thani Hotel.
Also on Day 1, Thai wild card Varatchaya Wongteanchai handled German Annika
Beck 6-3, 6-3, Russian Alexandra Panova topped Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6
(8-6), 3-2, retired, and France's Mathilde Johansson dismissed Taipei's Kai-
Chen Chang 6-4, 6-3.
This week's top seed is former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic. The Serbian star will
open her stay against Japan's Ayumi Morita.
Reigning two-time champion Daniela Hantuchova, seeded sixth this week, bested
Russian Maria Kirilenko in last year's Pattaya finale.
This week's winner will collect $40,000.
