Clint Barmes added a RBI single during Pittsburgh's big frame and finished 2- for-2 with a run scored. Alex Presley and Jose Tabata also had run-scoring singles in the second-inning outburst.
Gerrit Cole worked the first four innings for the Pirates and gave up just two hits, though one was a two-run homer to Deering alum Ryan Flaherty that accounted for Baltimore's only scoring.
Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez was reached for four runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits over a pair of innings.
Fellow Deering product Ryan Reid struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth to earn the save.
