San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks acquired Scott Hannan at Wednesday's trade deadline, bringing the veteran defenseman back into the fold.

The Sharks sent a conditional draft pick to Nashville to reacquire Hannan, a first-round draft pick by San Jose in 1997. The deal is for a seventh-rounder that could become a sixth if Hannan skates in even one playoff game for San Jose this spring.

"Scott Hannan is a player we are very familiar with and gives us an added veteran depth presence on defense," said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson.

Hannan played the first eight years of his career with the Sharks before leaving for free agency in 2007. The 34-year-old is a veteran of 937 NHL games and has posted 198 points (33 goals, 165 assists) and 542 penalty minutes.

Hannan skated in 508 games for the Sharks, placing him 10th in the franchise annals. His plus-45 rating is also good for fifth on San Jose's all-time list.
