Duluth, GA (Sports Network) - Bart Bryant carded a 4-under 68 on Friday to
grab a share of the lead at the Greater Gwinnett Championship before play was
suspended due to darkness.
He is joined atop the leaderboard by David Frost, who is 4-under through 13
The start of the first round at TPC Sugarloaf was delayed four hours because
of rain and only 24 players were able to finish their opening rounds.
Also among those who finished were Duffy Waldorf and Neal Lancaster, who both
shot 3-under 69s to sit in a group tied for third place.
They were joined there by John Cook, Michael Allen, Mark O'Meara and Fred
Funk, all of whom are on their back nine and will finish their first rounds at
8:00 a.m. (et) Saturday.
Bryant started his round on the back nine and opened with four straight pars
before getting on the board with back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th.
He dropped a shot at the 17th, but recovered with a birdie at the 18th to hit
the turn at 2-under.
He added another birdie at the second, and then followed a streak of four pars
with a birdie at the seventh.
Bryant closed with a par at the last right before play was called to a halt.
Frost also started on the back nine and was bogey-free through his 13 holes.
He picked up his first stroke with a birdie at the 13th, and then recorded
three birdies over his last six holes to move into a share of the lead with
Lancaster traded six birdies with three bogeys during his round, while Waldorf
followed a string of nine consecutive pars with four birdies and a bogey over
his inward nine to sit in second place.
NOTES: This is the first time since 2000 the Champions Tour was back in the
Atlanta area ... John Huston withdrew from the tournament prior to the start
of his round due to a back injury and was replaced by Chip Beck. Beck is 1-
over through 12 holes ... It was the first time since last year's Mississippi
Gulf Resort Classic that the start of a Champions Tour event was delayed ...
Bruce Fleisher made the first birdie in Greater Gwinnett Championship history
at the second hole, while Cook made the first eagle at the 13th.
