Former UMaine star snaps Sea Dogs streak

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (NEWS CENTER) - Former UMaine All-American Curt Smith's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth snapped the Portland Sea Dogs streak of eigth consecutive series victories as the New Britain Rock Cats won 5-4. 

Miguel Celestino gave up three runs in the eighth to take the loss. 

Former Red Sox Daniel Bard's pitching woes continued as he lated only 2/3 of an inning, allowing a run on four walks and throwing eight of his 29 pitches for strikes. 

The Sea Dogs will try to salvage a split on Sunday when Anthony Ranaudo (4-1, 1.84 ERA) takes to the mound for Portland.
