Budapest, Hungary (Sports Network) - The $235,000 Hungarian Grand Prix tennis event lost its top seeds on Tuesday when Czech Lucie Safarova and former champion Alize Cornet of France were sent packing.

Little-known Russian Valeria Solovyeva crushed the top-seeded Safarova 6-1, 6-0, while Czech Andrea Hlavackova whipped Cornet 6-4, 6-2 on the red clay at Romai Tennis Academy. Cornet captured the title here back in 2008.

Two other seeds avoided upsets, as No. 6 Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa doused Slovak Michaela Honcova 6-4, 6-1 and No. 8 Anna Tatishvili of Georgia grounded Hungarian wild card Reka-Luca Jani 6-3, 6-4.

Several other women notched first-round wins, including Israeli Shahar Peer, Romanian Alexandra Cadantu and Austrian Yvonne Meusburger.

The 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix champion will earn $40,000.
