Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jamie McGinn scored off a lucky bounce
at 2:31 of overtime to lead the Colorado Avalanche in a 1-0 win over the Los
Angeles Kings on Saturday.
Los Angeles lost the puck in the Colorado end and play went the other way.
Taking the puck in down the left wing, Jan Hejda threw the puck to the middle
for John Mitchell, who then fed the puck over to the right circle. From there,
McGinn fired a shot on net that Ben Scrivens stopped, but the disc came out
front and bounced off of Los Angeles' Jarret Stoll before sliding into the
Semyon Varlamov stopped 19 shots for his first shutout of the season and 12th
of his career for the Avalanche, who have won three straight.
Scrivens got the loss despite stopping 32 shots for the Kings, who have lost
their past two.
Los Angeles had trouble generating many chances, as the team had just 14 shots
through the first two period before managing just four in the third and one in
Scrivens, meanwhile, kept his team in the contest with 16 saves in the second
period and 10 in the third to force overtime.
The Kings play at Vancouver on Monday ... Colorado hosts St. Louis on
Wednesday ... The Kings took two of three from the Avs last season ... Los
Angeles was 0-for-4 on the power play while Colorado failed on its three
