ORONO, MAINE (NEWS CENTER) - The Umaine women's season was resuscitated with their berth in the Women's Basketball Invitational. Now they have a second chance at an opponent who beat them four months ago.
The 30-point win over Bucknell in the first-round of the WBI on Wednesday, which was the first for UMaine in 15 years and matched a season-high for margin of victory, set up a quarter-final matchup at Fairfield (CT).
The Stags beat the Black Bears 80-59 in a regular season matchup back on December 9. It's something that some of the players haven't forgotten.
"We wanted a chance to redeem ourselves, so we got a chance to do that. Now we got another chance to play another team that we've played before," said senior guard Ashleigh Roberts.
Roberts' teammate Liz Wood is more concerend about the Black Bears doing what they need to do to succeed.
"Right now, we're just focusing on playing our game and I think that's working really well for us. You know it's anyone's game at this point. It's all about heart at this point in the season so, I think we have a good chance to go anywhere. We play better when we're having fun. You know, winning's fun and when we're really clicking out there that's what I live for," said the sophomore forward.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
