Deering alum hired as UMaine men's basketball assistant

ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Newly appointed University of Maine men's head basketball coach Bob Walsh has added two assistants to his staff and each has Maine ties.

Zak Boisvert, a Deering alum, and Matt O'Brien, son of former Black Bears football player Phil, have been hired to coach under Walsh.

O''Brien, who spent the past six years at America East rivals Vermont, was Walsh's first hire when he was named head coach at Rhode Island College back 2005. Walsh spent three years with the Anchormen before moving onto Vermont.

Walsh's other newly appointed assistant Bosivert has been the youngest assistant in Division I basketball the past two season. He spent last year at Fairleigh Dickinson and the year before at Iona.

Prior to his transition to college coaching, Boisvert worked as the team events director at Hoop Group, a company that helps organize and run team basketball events.
