Pirates sunk in shootout for 8th straight loss

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Portland Pirates remain at the bottom of the AHL standings after dropping their eighth straight game, 3-2 in a shootout to Norfolk.

Brett Hextall's 11th goal of the season opened the scoring 6:30 into the game. Emerson Etem would tie it for the Admirals five minutes and four seconds later as the first period would end 1-1.

Nic Kerdiles gave Norfolk their first lead with 1:38 left in the second period and that would've been the game-winner if not for Lucas Lessio's tally to level the game with only six seconds left in regulation.

With no goals in overtime or the first five rounds of the shootout, Jesse Blacker scored the only goal to give Norfolk both points.

Chris Rawlings stopped 26 of 28 shots for the Pirates.

Portland (24-38-3-9) has two games left in the season: Albany on Wednesday and St. John's on Saturday. Both are at home.
