Sea Dogs Spotlight: Mookie Betts

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Mookie Betts went from an average prospect in one season to the Red Sox minor league player of the next. His meteoric rise through the organization led to him being the first Sea Dogs Spotlight of 2014.

The third-year pro batted .314 with an on-base percentage of .417 in 127 games between Class A Greenville and High Class A Salem. Despite his 5'9", 156 pound frame, Betts hit 15 home runs, had 36 doubles, and drove in 65 runs. He also scored 93 runs and stole 38 bases.

Betts is continuing to put up numbers in Double A. In 10 games, the 2011 5th round pick, is hitting .450 with an OBP of .414 with 12 runs, 6 doubles, a triple, a home run, and 4 stolen bases. His hot start to the season earned him the Eastern League's first player of the week award for the season.
