Slate set for legion baseball state championship game

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Four teams remained in the hunt for the Maine Legion Baseball State Championship coming into Saturday morning at.

Two games. Two teams moving on. Two teams going home.

In the early game it was Post 51 and Bessey Motors taking the field at the Winkin Complex at Husson University.

Cody Martin took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as Post 51 was looking to hold onto a 1-0 lead. Errors would be the Achilles heal for Post 51, committing five throughout the game leading the way for a Bessey Motors comeback. Bessey would score three runs in the sixth inning, going up 3-1.

Post 51 wouldn't go away easily, however. In the eighth inning a two-run single by Jake Dexter would knot things up at, 3-3.

In the bottom of the 9th inning Bessey would work their way into scoring position and Matt Beauchesne would send a walk-off RBI single down the third base line to send Bessey Motors to the championship.

In game two, it was Bangor and Brewer going head-to-head. Bangor would score early and often, opening up the flood gates en route to a 16-5 win over the Falcons in just seven innings.

Bangor and Bessey Motors (Oxford Hills) will play at noon on Sunday for the championship at Husson.

Since Bangor is still unbeaten, Bessey Motors would have to beat Bangor twice. If Bessey wins the first game at noon, a second game would follow.
