PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Brian Johnson is rapidly moving up the ranks as a Red Sox pitching prospect. The big left-hander out of the University of Florida leads the Eastern League with the lowest ERA. In 16 starts, he has a 9-2 record and a 2.03 Earned Run Average.
"It's a lot of fun to have that kind of success," Johnson told NEWS CENTER. "I'm just trying to focus on staying in my routine and doing my work on the four days in between starts."
Johnson has thrown back to back one-hitters in his last two starts. His July 25th win over New Britain was outstanding. He had 12 strike outs as he picked up the win.
The twin one-hitters were no surprise as twins run in his family. "My mom was a Doublemint Twin and my father played football at Florida State."
Good genes are apparently helping Johnson get to the top. His next start is tomorrow night in Bowie, Maryland.
