BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --The Maine Readers' Choice Award committee announced Tuesday the finalists for the 2014 Maine Readers' Choice Award. The committee of Maine librarians, booksellers, literacy advocates, reviewers and writers, selected four works of fiction from 140. The top four are: "The Goldfinch" by Donna Tartt, "Benediction" by Kent Haruf, "The Golem and the Jinni" by Helene Wecker, and "TransAtlantic" by Colum McCann.

Now readers can vote on their favorite. During the first two weeks of September, Maine readers can vote for their favorite at public libraries or at the Maine Reader's Choice Award website.

The committee considers books published in the United States in the previous year that appeal to a wide audience. The committee doesn't consider revised editions, updates of previously published works, series or trilogies are not eligible for consideration.

The Maine Readers' Choice will announce the winner in the fall.
