BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Jim Perkins was an all American boy growing up in Boothbay Harbor. He loved to play football and did well academically. He was appointed to the Naval Academy by Senator Margaret Chase Smith.

His career path took him to amazing places. He marched in the funeral procession of John F. Kennedy. He also had instrumental roles in major world events of the late 20th Century.

In his book "Decisions at Sea" author Craig Symonds wrote that Perkins' actions in the Persian Gulf helped define the evolution of naval warfare.

Now retired, Admiral Perkins reflected on his career with NEWS CENTER's Bill Green.
