Bar Harbor, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--Bird watching is said to be Maine's most popular activity and the early Spring has migrating birds appearing in big numbers. On Mount Desert Island, Michael Good is excited about the arrivals. He is an ornithologist, guide and director of one of Maine's biggest birding festivals.

"It's somewhat early this year," Good told NEWS CENTER after temperatures as high as eighty degrees in March had melted the snow in much of Maine.

Good is known for his Acadia Birding Festival on Mount Desert Island. This year's festival will showcase well known birders Kevin Karlson and Pete Dunne.

Good says there's a good reason to take in a birding festival. "You may be in that area onlyonce and this allows you to make the most of your time in the field," he told NEWS CENTER.

His lifetime bird list includes more than 900 different species. Two hundred sixty-one of them were seen right on MDI.

"You can basically tour Maine by taking in birding festivals," he said.

TheAcadia Birding Festival will be held May 31 through June 4. There are festivals and other events along The Maine Birding Trail all summer long.
