PITTSFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--These days, people are making more purchases online than ever before but with the convenience comes some hidden dangers. A man in Pittsfiled is learning the hard way the importance of using caution before jumping on a good deal.

When Benjamin Herbests bought this candy apple red Dodge truck for 700 dollars cash, he says it seemed like a deal that was too good to be true.

He purchased the vehicle from a woman he found on craigslist but she didn't have the title for the truck. Later the police told him she didn't even own the truck.

Now Herbest can't register the vehicle or sell it. Despite the experience Herbest says he still believes in giving people the benefit of the doubt in most circumstances but he knows it's important be cautious.

The police department warns that it is against the law to knowingly buy stolen property.
