BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Many communities across the country got together to meet their neighbors and help keep communities safe Tuesday night for National Night Out.
Bangor celebrated its first National night Out at Second Street Park Tuesday night. Bangor Police said the neighborhood watch group West Side Watch, played a large role in organizing the event. West Side Watch member Tim Kelly said the group was created because the neighborhood around Second and Third Streets and Union and Parker Streets were dealing with crime and vandalism. So the Community came together to make the area safer.
"We just said 'he wait a minute, what can we do as owners, tax payers, residents to pull together and make it safer for kids,'" Kelly said.
Bangor Police said they plan on having this event again next year.
