BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Acadia Hospital invited three sculptors from the Schoodic Sculptor Symposium to talk about how art has helped them out and changed their lives on Friday.

Johnny Turner was one of the sculptors who spoke at the event. He is a rock sculptor from New Zealand and he started sculpting 10 years ago.

Turner said he has been through some difficult times in his life, and he believes his artwork may have saved his life.

"I had a very difficult period of my life where I lost a child to cancer, and then the mother of my child she died of cancer as well. And it was a period where rather than being creative as sculpture is, I was being very destructive," Turner said.

Turner said at some point in the future some of his sculptures will be on display at the UMaine Alumni House.
