PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Brian Petrovek, the CEO/Managing Owner of the Portland Pirates has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Portland police say that Petrovek was arrested early yesterday morning. Police say they got a report from a passer-by that a jeep driven by Petrovek had driven onto the median at the intersection of Spring and Center Street. When they arrived, Petrovek was revving the engine, trying to get out of the median. Police say Petrovic then failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. He has since made bail. The Pirates say they have no comment on the matter.

Thursday afternoon the Portlan Pirates released this statement:

"The Portland Pirates want you to know that Brian regrets his lack of discipline and poor judgment which led to his arrest for OUI early Wednesday morning. Brian would like the community to know that he made a mistake and hopes that the people reading and watching these news reports learn from his experience and make better choices. He accepts that he made a poor decision and hopes that everyone refrains from drinking and driving during this holiday season."
