AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A man from Augusta was ordered to spend 6-years in prison for causing the death of his partner.
A little more than week from going on trial for murder, Michael Young changed his plea to guilty in exchange for the charge being reduced to manslaughter.
When police responded to the apartment young shared with his partner David Cox, they found Cox on the floor with a stab wound to his chest.
Young told investigators that cox tripped and fell on the knife, a story he still maintains today.
His attorney said Young agreed to the plea rather than risk going on trial for murder.
No one from the victim's family attended the hearing. The prosecutor told the judge both of David Cox's parents agreed with the plea and the sentence.
