OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Roughly four hundred people braved near-freezing temperatures and the frigid waters of the Atlanticto ring in the New Year by plunging into theocean andraise money for the Special Olympics Maine at the 25th annual Lobster Dip.

Three hundred eighty-eight dippers lined up on the sands of Old Orchard Beach at noon before braving the surf. Many wore costumes, while otherswore barely anything at all as they dove into theforty-five degree ocean on a day when the temperature struggled to climb above freezing.

In all, the dippers helped raise more than $108,000 dollars for young athletes with developmental disabilities.
