BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- We're in the midst of a warm spell, which has been causing a serious melt throughout the state, but that hasn't stopped some fishermen from heading out onto the ice, which has officials nervous.

There's a lot of open water on the Kennebec River in Brunswick this weekend.

The Bureau of Maine Marine Patrol and the Department of Marine Resources are asking people to avoid venturing out onto river ice.

They say the warm temperatures and recent rain have been a dangerous mix, coinciding with the month's high river tide, helping to weaken the ice.
