(NEWS CENTER) From budgets to hospital debt to firearms, Maine lawmakers have a packed agenda. Speaker of the House Mark Eves and House Minority Leader Ken Fredette go In The Arena with Pat Callaghan.
The Legislature worked with rare speed this week to put a temporary lid on information about Mainers with concealed carry weapons permits. Representatives Eves and Fredette talk about why that had to be rushed through without committee work session or public hearings. They also discuss why no hearing has been scheduled yet for taking up Gov. Paul LePage's proposals for repaying the state's debt to hospitals, and the current proposal to legalize and tax recreational use of marijuana.
Rep. Fredette also talked about what he expects will be difficult budget negotiations, saying "Quite frankly, a government shutdown is something that's a possibility."
