ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After Mother Nature dumped more than a foot of snow on Eastern Maine, the Black Bear baseball team has been forced to postpone its home opener and head to Hartford for the 3-game series.

The team is coming off a series win at Stony Brook, and players say they were really hoping to get some game time at Mahaney Diamond.

"We were excited to have our first home series against Hartford here, but I guess we'll just have to make that up when they come up here later on in the year," says junior Alex Calbick.

Maine isn't the only school having issues with its field due to the weather. Albany is scheduled to host Maine next weekend, but school officials there say their field won't be in playable condition by then. Maine head coach Steve Trimper says the Great Danes will likely come to Orono for the series, but a final decision has not yet been made.

The Black Bears are currently 2-1 in conference play and 11-12 overall.
