OXFORD, Maine(NEWS CENTER) -- Four people were injured when a tractor trailer collided with a Volvo sedan in Oxford Saturday evening.

The Oxford Police Department said the accident happened around 6:15 p.m. on Route 26 in front of Walmart.

Oxford Police Officer Zane Loper said the Volvo was turning left into Walmart when it was struck by the tractor trailer coming in the other direction.

Police said four people were in the Volvo, and one person was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and two other passengers were also injured in the crash, all with non-life threatening injuries, and they were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The driver of the Volvo has been identified as 21-year-old Richard Schmieks, and police said all three passengers in the car were juveniles.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash, and he's been identified as 58-year-old David Teicher.

Loper said the Volvo was destroyed in the crash, and the tractor trailer also sustained damage.

Route 26 was shut down for a short time Saturday evening as police were investigating the crash, but it was back open to traffic as of Sunday morning.

The accident remains under investigation.
