BREWER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Rain showerson Wednesdaydidn't stop some people from getting out to plant some flowers for a good cause.
The 'Purple Iris Foundation' is planting that flower in many spots around the Bangor area to remember those battling pancreatic cancer. Purple irises represent faith courage and wisdom. The foundation is planting them to honor victims and survivors of of the disease.It isalso selling iris bulbs to raise money for the upcoming Relay for Life.
Chris Parrish, who survived her own battle with pancreatic cancer,is at the head of the group. She says the campaign is not just about honoring survivors but also spreading awareness of the deadly disease.
"I'm doing it for anybody that's afflicted by pancreatic cancer..it's very dear to my heart," she said, "and I just want to get out there. Different cancers have a big campaign..and its time for purple to be added to that."
