BATH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine's senators say the Navy is pursuing the award of multi-year procurement contracts critical to the work of the Bath Iron Works shipyard.
By early next month, the Navy will announce contracts for up to 10 DDG-51 destroyers.
Senators Susan Collins and Angus King says the Navy tells them the contracts will be for the next four fiscal years.
Both Collins and King have pushed for funding to enable the Navy to continue building the DDG-51. In their first event together as senators in Maine in February, the pair visited the shipyard to pledge to keep BIW busy.
