Laura Baumli discovered three adult cats and three litters of kittens, three, 5 and 7 weeks old in this plastic tote. The tote was located in front of a fence at a gravel pit locate on Gay road. The cats were unharmed and appeared to be well cared for. She took the felines to the Coastal Humane Society Thursday morning. Humane society say spring is the beginning of 'cat season' when kittens are born in large numbers, many end up being abandoned because the owners are overwhelmed.

Humane Society officials say they can waive the fees they charged when someone surrenders animals. If you would like more information about adopting a pet from the Coastal Humane Society, you can go to their website, www.coastalhumanesociety.org
