HAMPDEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State Police say that 6 of the 8 brakes failed on the dump truck involved in yesterdays collision with a train on Route 202 in Hampden. 61 year old Frederick Lindsay was driving the truck on Western Avenue in Hampden when he swerved to avoid a car that was stopped to let the train go by. Lindsay missed the car but plowed into the train. The train was actually knocked off the tracks and cars from the train were knocked loose. The main concern for authorities was to get Lindsay out of the truck safely. Emergency workers say he was conscious and lucid while they worked about an hour to haul him out. A crane was brought in to clear the wreckage. Lindsay is in good condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center. The owners of the truck are M & S Trucking of Medway. State Police say charges could be filed against the company.
